Nursing professionals play a vital role in protecting and expanding reproductive rights in North Carolina due to their unique position within the healthcare system. Our knowledge, skills, and compassionate care contribute to improving access to contraception, gender-affirming care, expanded birth options, abortion, and equitable access to infertility treatments. By championing reproductive health, we help individuals exercise their rights and make informed decisions about their reproductive well-being.
Unfortunately, nurses have not always been recognized as critical partners in reproductive rights advocacy. Our invaluable expertise and firsthand experience in reproductive healthcare is often overlooked, limiting our involvement in policy-making and decision-making processes. However, there is a growing recognition of the need to include nurses as essential stakeholders in shaping reproductive rights agendas.
To address this gap, the organization North Carolina Nurses for Reproductive Rights (NCNRR) is working to elevate the role of nurses and ensure their active participation in reproductive rights advocacy. NCNRR recognizes that nurses possess unique insights into the challenges and needs of individuals seeking reproductive healthcare.
